Extra Credit
Projects?

I usually offer a few points of extra credit on all quizzes and tests as well as occasional optional extra credit worksheets.  I  do not give out individual extra credit projects.

Don't let the semester catch up on you!

Take advantage of extra credit opportunities as they arise.

The Long and Short of It

It is VERY important to come to class prepared.

N.O. NELSON STUDENTS: As our class meets on a working college campus, there is no option to " go to your locker." So it is EXTREMELY important that you have everything you might need. Failure to do so can result in loss of credit for that day!

Restroom breaks: should be taken before class, or at the beginning or end of class within reason. Please do not attempt to interrupt a discussion to use the restroom.

**If it becomes a recurring problem, restroom privileges will be revoked.**

Daily Practices

Workbook

Notebook/Binder- We will put all vocabulary

and notes in a notebook/binder each chapter.

Folder-for any assigned homework.

Writing utensils-  Bring something

to write with. Easy enough.

Spanish/English Dictionary- This is not a requirement but can be a great help!

Materials

Textbooks

I have a set of textbooks that are for daily use in class that stay in the bookcase at the front of my room. These are for class use only and have to be checked out if taken home. However, if you prefer, I CAN assign you a textbook that is yours to take home.

Expectations

We follow the rules and guidelines in the handbook for cell phones, tardies, absences, copying, discipline etc.

Respect

  • Respect your teacher and fellow classmates.

  • Respect the limited time we have in our class.

  • Respect our classroom.

**Bullying of any kind (physical, verbal, psychological) will NOT be tolerated in my class. If you are unable to treat either your teacher or your classmates with RESPECT, you will be asked to leave class immediately**

Permissions

  • Food/Drinks are allowed within reason. All drinks must have a lid, and all wrappers are to be thrown away before leaving.

  • If it becomes a problem the privilege will be revoked.

The Breakdown

All grades are nonweighted and graded on a point scale, with the exception of the final, which is worth 1/5 (20%) of the total semester grade.

Grading Scale

100%-90%=A

89%-80%=B

79%-70%=C

69%-60%=D

  • Some homework assignments will be checked for completion, some checked for answers correct, some collaborative efforts, etc.

  • There will also be some in-class activities (individual/group) that will count for homework grades. Some graded on participation!!

  • Expect random homework quizzes or collaborative assessments.

Homework/In class activities

Projects/Presentations

We will do several group projects each quarter, with different rubrics for each. Each is graded not only on the finished product, but also how well the group works together to complete it.

  •  We will do formal and informal speaking activities throughout the year graded solely on your efforts in communicating.

It is important to be engaged in class every day!

Speaking is not just an option;

it is a requirement.

Learning a new language is NOT a spectator sport!

You will often make mistakes in speaking…and that’s awesome. In fact, I expect it!

Participation

 is..........................................HUGE.

Quizzes/Tests

Vocabulary/verb quizzes will be a variety of styles, but prepared to be able to spell the words in Spanish!

These quizzes will be always be posted at least a few days ahead of time on the board at the front of the classroom.

In-class comprehension checks may occur at any time and will count for quiz grades as well.

These are often open note/open homework, which is a great reason to keep work organized!
